Surprise police are investigating an incident in which a dead body was found Thursday morning.

On March 16 at about 5:45 a.m., the Surprise Police Department responded to a report of a person lying on the ground and not breathing in the area of 17600 North Litchfield Road between Grand Avenue and Bell Road.

Officers discovered the body of a deceased white man upon arrival but have not identified him.

Sgt. Norman Owens said police are interviewing witnesses, but the investigation is still in the early stages to make any definitive statements on what happened.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the man's death and ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000, or 623-222-TIPS (8477). Email tips to crimetips@surpriseaz.gov.
