Surprise police arrest suspect in fatal stabbing

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Logan Metcalf, Surprise police said Saturday.

The stabbing occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in the parking lot of Fuzzy's, 18795 N. Reems Road.

Officers arrived and detained Daniel Nassar, who was being restrained by people outside the business. They told officers they had intervened to stop an altercation between the suspect and Metcalf, 29, according to a Surprise Police Department release.

Metcalf was taken to a hospital where he died shortly after his arrival, police said.

“Witnesses reported that the two were engaged in a conversation in a vehicle parked in the Fuzzy’s lot before the altercation escalated,” the release stated.

Nassar was interviewed by investigators before being booked, police said.
