The city of Surprise and Ottawa University-Arizona hosted the Future Business Leaders of America Region 4 Competition and Conference, where over the course of the day the students heard remarks from Mayor Skip Hall and OUAZ President Dennis Tyner.

The students competed in more than 70 different events that were administered by more than 40 volunteer judges from many of the city’s partner organizations.

Nearly 30 high schools in the West Valley competed in the event, including three of the four Dysart Unified School District high schools.

Events included business graphics, a board game extravaganza, a leadership circus and a workshop about running for state office.

Arizona Department of Education representatives included Career and Technical Student Organization State Director Julie Ellis.

It was one of five region competitions that are planned between mid- to late January. Glendale hosted the Region 3 competition Jan. 20 and the Region 5 event Jan. 27.

FBLA Week is coming across the country Feb. 11 through 17.

FBLA was established in 1940 and is based out of Reston, Virginia. The group is the largest business CTSO in the world, helping more than 230,000 middle school, high school and college students prepare for careers in business.
