Three major growth corridors in the once again explosive growth city of Surprise — spurred by residential development, commercial expansion or both — will have new traffic lights by the end of 2023 at the latest.
The intersection with the greatest need and most accelerated timeline is 163rd Avenue and Pat Tillman Boulevard — the gateway to the Asante development and site of a Fry’s Marketplace and associated power center.
Surprise Public Works Director Kristin Tytler said this is the city’s No. 1 area of new development, and the amount of increased traffic along the 163rd Avenue corridor — to newer developments such as Asante, Desert Oasis, Escalante and Ranch Mercado, as well as established rural areas such as Saguaro Acres and a large Maricopa County island — sped up the process.
