Surprise officially bans wildlife feedings

Fines possible for repeated violations

The city of Surprise now has teeth to enforce a rule that prohibits the feeding of wild animals on city property.

But officials are hoping to not have to enforce it. Instead park rangers are already working on educating the community about the dangers of feeding the ducks, pigeons and other animals at city parks and other city property.

“Our plan, just to be clear, is to not enforce it,” Holly Osborn, the director of the Surprise Parks and Recreation Department, told the Surprise City Council at its Nov. 16 meeting.
