If you still need to file your return, there are free tax preparation services available to low and moderate income individuals and families through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The VITA program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. VITA volunteers are certified to IRS standards and prepare basic tax returns which can be filed electronically to expedite the process.

There are two VITA sites offered through city of Surprise. The locations and hours are as follows:

Surprise Resource Center

12425 W. Bell Road, Building A, Suite No. 124 Surprise

Thursdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April 13

Surprise Senior Center

15832 N. Hollyhock St. Surprise

Tuesdays 4 to 8 p.m. through April 11

Appointments are not required. For information on what to bring with you, visit https://www.irs.gov/individuals/free-tax-return-preparation-for-you-by-volunteers.

The VITA sites in Surprise are made possible through a partnership between city of Surprise, A New Leaf and Valley of the Sun United Way.
