Surprise mourns death of city councilmember

Remley dies just days before his District 4 term was to end

With just eight days to go on his term as a city council member, Ken Remley died Dec. 23 after battling health problems for years.

Remley, who was 80, served the mostly Original Town Site District 4 for eight years from January 2017 until his death.

“Ken was passionate about doing the right thing for the community,” Mayor Skip Hall said in a statement. “He was always willing to ask the tough questions to ensure he was making the most informed decisions, and there was never a doubt how much he cared for the people of Surprise. I am personally thankful to have known him and to have served alongside him.”
