Surprise, MAG coordinating on homeless help

Evictions, affordable housing are among growing concerns

Surprise is looking to get ahead — and stay ahead — of issues involving homelessness in the community and beyond, particularly at a time when a potential wave of post-pandemic evictions lurks and affordable housing is becoming harder to find.

A City Council workshop meeting on Tuesday, June 1, featured a discussion of how the city is working with local groups, the Maricopa Association of Governments and others on solutions to built a better safety net for Surprise and region residents.

While part of the issue concerning local leaders is the ending of an eviction moratorium instituted when the COVID-19 pandemic began, the skyrocketing price of housing in the Valley also is of concern, officials said.
