Surprise looking for tax prep helpers

Volunteers are needed to help low- to moderate-income families and individuals prepare their taxes.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is sponsored by the IRS and provides free tax return preparation services through a large network of short-term volunteers.
Volunteers are not required to have prior tax preparation experience; training will be provided. There is a large variety of volunteer opportunities within the VITA program, including:
Tax Preparer – Prepares basic 1040 tax returns and related schedules. Individuals will also be able to answer tax law questions. Tax professionals may be able to earn free CPE credits.
Greeter/Screener – Greets taxpayers to create a welcoming atmosphere and performs the screening process of all taxpayers prior to moving them to the tax preparer.
For those interested in learning more, VITA information sessions are available at Surprise Resource Center, Riverboat Bingo and online. Sessions go through November 2.
