OPINION — Re: Howard Fisher’s article, Surprise lawmaker seeks to boost speeds on rural highways, interstates in Arizona:
Oh, please! If Rep. Nick Kupper wants the police to focus on other driving issues and not speed, ask them to. And by the way, did he ask them what they think of raising the speed limit? I don’t see any reference in the article to what the police want to see in speed limits here.
To require people to drive at a speed “reasonable and prudent” is subjective and not easily defined. I don’t want to see my 95-year-old neighbor driving 80 or more miles an hour and he would if the speed limit sign said he could. Or my next door neighbor, who is 16 years old, or anyone.
I think this is a bad and dangerous idea. If we are going to solve transportation issues, can we work on the lack of public transit in the Northwest Valley? Let’s get some people safe public transit and off the streets before you release the kraken.
