The Surprise Fire-Medical Department joined the Surprise Police Department Jan. 30 to honor the life-saving actions of Glendale firefighter Timothy Webb, along with members of Surprise Fire Station 303 C-Shift.

The city of Surprise held an award presentation for Webb at Surprise Fire Station 303, 15440 N. Cotton Lane.

It all stems from the night of Aug. 6 when Surprise Police officers responded to an altercation in a residential area.

When officers arrived, they found multiple people outside a home. One man was holding a knife and another man was found with a life-threatening stab wound.

Webb, a neighborhood resident and an off-duty Glendale firefighter/EMT, heard the outside commotion and came out of his home to see the victim needed immediate life-saving medical care.

Despite it being an active scene, Webb was compelled to use his training and experience to provide care to the victim until further medical help arrived. The crew of Surprise Fire Station 303 arrived shortly after and took over treating the victim, continuing life-saving medical care as they transported the victim to a local hospital.

In a news release, the city said the victim survived the attack due in part to the actions of Webb that night.
