Surprise ‘Hand’ mural deaccessioned

Commission deems project beyond repair

Spring training fans who attended games at Surprise Stadium before 2020 may have remembered a mural called “Give Your Community a Hand,” which greeted them in the north parking lot.

But that project was removed from the wall of a well site because landscaping sprinklers kept spraying it, causing tiles to continuously fall off.

The city’s Arts and Cultural Advisory Commission attempted to find another home for the mural, but it won’t be coming back at all because commissioners decided that it was beyond repair after looking over the tiles of handprints that have been sitting in storage.
