Surprise food bank unveils shop modeled after grocery stores

A small space could pay big dividends for some West Valley residents.

On Tuesday, St. Mary’s Food Bank in Surprise unveiled its mini-grocery store — a 900-square-foot room that mimics a produce section and the aisle of your favorite neighborhood market.

Customers can shop for items with a food bank volunteer rather than being given a prepackaged food box.
