Surprise fans glad to hear ‘play ball’

Changes greet smaller crowds in COVID times

Deanna Leary didn’t know what she was more excited about — seeing a live sporting event in person for the first time in a year, or eating inside a restaurant for the first time since early 2020.

Luckily for the Fresno, California, woman and her husband, Tim, they got to do both on a trip to the Valley for spring training.

“We got to eat inside a restaurant and we are thrilled,” said Ms. Leary, referring to California’s current ban on indoor dining. “It’s the little things.”
