West Valley city drops license fee to help small businesses

Initial cost cut in half to help get companies up and running

The cost of doing business in Surprise just got a little cheaper.

The city council voted this week to cut the initial business fee of $168 in half to help boost startups in the city. The renewal fee will remain at $84, which matches the new initial fee.

“This sends the message to our community that Surprises is open for business, and that we’re always going to try to take a look at how we do things and try to do a even better job,” Vice Mayor Jack Hastings said at the Sept. 16 council meeting before the item was unanimously passed.
