The Surprise Parks and Recreation Department honored seven entries in the recent Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11.
Assistant Director Paul Frie announced the winners at the Dec. 19 City Council meeting, led by Lighthorse Legacy, which won Best Veterans Service Organization.

City rewards 7 entries for 9th annual event

The Surprise Parks and Recreation Department honored seven entries in the recent Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11.
Assistant Director Paul Frie announced the winners at the Dec. 19 City Council meeting, led by Lighthorse Legacy, which won Best Veterans Service Organization.
The other winners were as follows:
Best Military — Cactus High School Junior ROTC.
Best Motorized — Arrows Academy Homeshool Group.
Best Non-Motorized — Surprise Parks and Recreation Department Adaptive Recreation Program.
Best Musical Performance — Paradise Honors High School Marching Band.
Best Youth — Lakota Blossoms Girl Scouts.
Best Classic Cars — West Valley Cruisers.
Parks and Recreation Advisory Commissioners Wayne Turner and Ron Jensen were the judges for the event.
Frie said more than 100 entries were involved in the ninth annual parade, its most ever.
