Surprise council wants DHS to respect its zoning laws

Council votes to send letter to Mullin after e-session debate

For most people, sending a letter just requires finding a stamp and an envelope.

For the Surprise City Council, sometimes sending a letter requires debate, legal advice and an executive session.

That is what the council did Tuesday night before unanimously voting to send a letter to the Department of Homeland Security to request DHS respects the city’s zoning laws in regards to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility it wants to open this fall.
