Surprise Council to investigate Cline’s campaigning

Candidate under fire for talk of election at city meetings

Surprise City Councilmember and mayoral candidate Aly Cline isn’t out of trouble yet.

The Surprise City Council will look for advice from outside legal counsel to decide on what punishment, if any, Cline should receive for allegedly campaigning in an official city capacity and taking down a sign promoting her opponent in the mayor race, Kevin Sartor.

At the May 21 city council meeting, Councilmember Jack Hastings motioned to add the matter on a future agenda, and Councilmember Chris Judd seconded it to allow it to advance.
