The Surprise City Council will discuss approving a letter to the Department of Homeland Security that requests DHS comply with state and local laws in its plans to open an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Surprise.
During its last meeting, Councilmember Chris Judd requested the council discuss the letter at the Tuesday, May 5 regular meeting. It starts at 6 p.m. at Surprise City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.
DHS is planning on opening the ICE detention center in a 418,000-square-foot warehouse at 13290 W. Sweetwater Ave., near Dysart Road.
