With commercials space beginning to dwindle around Surprise with all the ongoing business development, the Surprise City Council voted April 19 to hold some back.
The council unanimously rejected a rezoning request at the northeast corner of Peoria and Sarival avenues that would have converted a corner commercial space into residential to make way for multifamily bungalows.
“I’m not just ready to hand over another corner,” District 3 Councilman Patrick Duffy said before the council voted. “Because Peoria Avenue is a hot spot. To me, I really don’t see the need to give up on it commercially.”
