Surprise Council OKs big water improvement loan

Nearly $35 million approved for SPA 1 treatment plant project

The Surprise City Council has signed off on approving a nearly $35 million loan for improvements to its SPA 1 water treatment plant.

But city of Surprise water and trash customers aren’t expected to see their rates increase to accommodate payment of the new loan.

The Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona is facilitating the loan from its clean water revolving fund program. The loan for the SPA 1 Capacity Enhancements project is capped at $34.98 million.
