The Surprise City Council has agreed to new district boundaries, but they’re not much different than the ones the city has now.
The council on June 6 rejected the committee’s recommendation of a map that was more compact for a map that is most similar to the current boundaries.
“Our goal should be not to displace residents if we can avoid it, and we really do have that option,” said Councilmember Nick Haney, whose northern-most District 1 saw the biggest gain in population since the last redistricting.
