Before a limited amount of fans will be allowed into Surprise Stadium for spring training games, the city will host fans for the annual Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic.

About 2,200 fans maximum will be allowed into each of the eight games between Friday, Feb. 19, and Monday, Feb. 22.

NCAA power Oregon State will be back again, along with New Mexico, Gonzaga and Kansas State.

To support physical distancing between groups of fans for safety, stadium-seating capacity will be reduced in pre-determined “seating pods” in groups of two, four and six.

Each transaction may be subject to a pod limit or ticket limit because all seating pods are subject to availability.

“The health and safety of fans and the Surprise community are the city’s top priority,” city officials wrote in a news release. “We have been working to develop health and safety measures specific to the College Baseball Classic experience after considering guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, local and international health authorities, the Pac-12 [Conference], Major League Baseball and destination partners.”

The tournament also will feature contactless ticketing, cashless transactions and new intensified cleaning protocols.

Games will be played at noon and 5 p.m. the first three days and 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the final day.

Kansas State and Oregon State will get the action going on the first day, followed by New Mexico against Gonzaga in the nightcap. All four teams will play the other three at least once. New Mexico and Oregon State will play each other twice, while Gonzaga and Kansas State will square off a pair of times as well.

Ticket prices range from $10 to $15.

The box office at 15960 N. Bullard Ave. will open for in-person ticket sales beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17. 

Box office transactions will be cashless, and social distancing measures will be in place. Accepted forms of payment at the box office include Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Service charges and processing fees may apply to online and phone orders.
