The Sun City West Tennis Club held their annual “Team Tennis” event Nov. 18 at the Memo’s Tennis Complex. This club competition is held three times throughout the year. This was the last of the three.
Club members sign up to play in their respective ratings categories. Both women and men compete in doubles play and there are four teams with each one having a captain. Captains draw names to determine the players on their team. The teams are based on colors — red, white, green and blue — and players wear their respective team color clothing for the event.
The team captains for this event were Ginny Althoff (white team), Dave Parrish (red team), Rich Jacobs (green team) and Klaus Sanders (blue team) The defending champion team captain was Ginny Althoff.
Team tennis has been an institution with the Tennis Club for 12 years. Sandy Johnson is the organizer, referee, presenter and score keeper, among other things. The winning team is based upon the number of games each team has won throughout the day. Each team plays all the other teams. Coaches have the task of choosing who plays together against the other teams.
After the event and the winner was announced, club members socialized with snacks, music and beverages. The winning team was the red team and captain Dave Parrish.
