A professional sculptor will be the featured speaker at the October meeting of the Sun City West Sportsman’s Club.

Richard Tucker will talk about a hunting trip he took to Zimbabwe in his presentation entitled “The Story of Two Leopards.”

The meeting will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16 in the RH Johnson Social Hall, 19801 N. RH Johnson Blvd., Sun City West. Members can meet with various group leaders from 1 to 1:30 p.m. to have questions answered followed by a short business meeting at 1:30 p.m., and then Tucker’s presentation.

Also, the snowbird hiking season is underway. Hikers meet at 7:15 a.m. Thursdays in area 14 of the RH Johnson parking lot to sign liability waivers and pair up drivers and riders. Hikers leave the parking lot at 7:30. Michael Anenen is the new hike coordinator and communicator and will send weekly emails detailing the upcoming hike.

The SCW Masters Swimmers have coached workouts from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the RH Johnson pool.

The Sportsman’s Club offers Sun City West men and women many outdoor Arizona activities including ATV/UTV riders, Big Wheels, Easy Riders, birding, boat fishing, shore fishing, GEOcaching, horseback riding, clay and target shooting, hiking, darts, walking/jogging, and masters swimming.

Participation in these activities will make residents connected to Sun City West and Arizona to learn about area history, geology, geography, flora, and fauna. These activities are also a way to help maintain body and brain health.
