The Sun City Stomperz, a seven-piece traditional Dixieland band, has a West Valley gig coming up.
The Stomperz return to The Lakes restaurant in Westbrook Village, now renamed Charley’s at the Lakes, at 6 p.m. Saturday Aug. 12 in Peoria. Charley’s is located at 19260 N. Westbrook Parkway.
The band, featuring Dan Reed on trumpet, performed at The Lakes twice a month for 12 years before the pandemic forced a break. With a change of management, remodeling, upgrading, a new menu and staff, the restaurant is back for live music again.
The Stomperz was formed in Sun City 2005 by Ernie Landes and Sid Gire to spread Dixieland Jazz to residents around the West Valley. Their repertoire focuses on the first three decades of the 20th century. This period includes the very beginnings of the traditional jazz age, the rise and fall of the Storyville District of New Orleans, the first jazz recordings and the resulting global appreciation of this music.
