Sun City rec center showdown

Board could be changing plan

The Recreation Centers of Sun City Board of Directors paved the way for possible changes in the planned Mountain View Center rebuild.

The board voted 7-2, with Dale Lehrer and Allan Lenefsku dissenting, during its February business meeting to suspend the project to allow for another ad hoc committee to research it and decide whether it is the best plan for the center. RCSC officials are deep into having detailed plans drawn up for the rebuild, which would include a performing arts center, a large multi-purpose gymnasium and a resort-style pool in the first two phases at a cost of about $27 million.

However, the project continues on schedule because the board must approve motions in two separate readings before they are final. The motion is planned to be brought back to the board for the second reading during the next business meeting, 9 a.m. Thursday, March 30 in the auditorium at Sundial Center, 14801 N. 103rd.
