Sun City Posse has rich history

50 years of service

Few volunteer service organizations survive for five decades. The Sun City Posse is one of the exceptions.

The all-volunteer organization, while having no law enforcement jurisdiction, patrols the age-restricted community and serves as the “eyes and ears” for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, which does have law enforcement jurisdiction in the unincorporated community in the county. Sun City is in MCSO’s District 3, a massive area covering 1,600 square miles with boundaries from the Yavapai County Line to Northern Avenue and I-17 to the La Paz County line.

“We couldn’t do what we do without the help of the Posse,” Capt. Brian Stutsman, MCSO District 3 commander, said. “They free up our guys to take care of the most pressing issues.”
