Sun City Players announce upcoming shows

Summer ending means the Sun City Players Community Theater is now getting to work. The 2023-24 season will consist of two ticketed productions.
The first show will be “Ripcord,” by David Lindsay-Abaire and directed by Shannon O’Brien. “Ripcord” takes us to the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, where the upper floor is prime real estate and the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn. Abby has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper Marilyn by any means necessary. Abby wants Marilyn gone, but Marilyn wants a new friend in Abby and the bed by the window. A challenge is identified and a wager is in place. Will Abby win, leaving her alone again in her room, or will Marilyn win and get the bed by the window?
Audiences can witness this often hilarious and sometimes touching battle between these two senior ladies, but understand sometimes they get a bit carried away and their language is not always G-rated, so this may not be a play to bring small children. “Ripcord” will be presented Oct. 27-29 and Nov. 3-5.
The second production is “The Cemetery Club,” written by Ivan Menchell and directed by Annette See. Come to this play and witness a group of friends who meet weekly to celebrate the past and cope with the present. But when life throws them a few unexpected curves, they happily discover the best times are still ahead. “The Cemetery Club” is a charming tale about life and death, love and forgiveness and the power of friendship. The play is full of humor, as well as tender and touching moments, and is ultimately a warm, witty and heartwarming comedy of endurance, emotional strength and hope. “The Cemetery Club” will be presented March 15-17 and 22-24.
Both Sun City Players shows can be seen in the Mountain View Recreation Center Auditorium. Single tickets can be purchased at suncityplayers.org for $15. Season tickets for both shows can be purchased for $25. Tickets will also be available for in-person purchase at the Fairway Recreation Center, 10 a.m.-noon Monday–Thursday the weeks of Oct. 23 and 30.
