Sun City Fire merger study progressing

Consultants meet with officials

The study to determine the feasibility of merging the Sun City Fire District with other entities is entering its final stage.

Sun City Fire District officials undertook the feasibility study to determine whether the Sun City district should join the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority in Sun City West in some form. The board approved the action during its April 26, 2022 regular business meeting after first approaching the matter the week before.

Rod Schmitz, SCFMD acting chief, said representatives of Emergency Services Consulting International, the firm conducting the study, will be in Sun City next week to meet with district board members and SCFMD administrators and staff to get their input. They will also visit the Sun City facilities, along with those of the Arizona Fire and Medical Authority and the Buckeye Valley Fire District, the entities targeted for a merger, if one were to be undertaken.
