Sun City Concert Band presents annual Sousa show

The Sun City Concert Band present its annual Sousa concert 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26 in the Sundial Recreation Center auditorium, 14801 N. 103rd Ave.

The concert boasts featured presentations by the flute, French horn, and percussion sections. Other selections will include several Sousa marches, the Waverly Way Concert March, composed by Dale Gleason, a member of the band’s trombone section, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, and Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen.

Tickets are $10 and will be available 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 25 in the Sundial auditorium lobby, and at the Sundial box office one hour before each performance.

The Sun City Concert Band offers a Winter Concert, usually in the second week of December, and a Salute to Sousa Concert, usually in the second week of February. The band also performs at the Sun Bowl in the spring and at various locations in the Northwest Valley at the invitation of communities such as Sun City West, Sun City Grand, and others.

The Sundial Recreation Center boasts the Recreation Centers of Sun City’s only indoor swimming pools. The exercise pool features an automated chair-lift for cardholders with special needs and there is a ramp allowing easy access for those with disabilities. Numerous concerts and special events (including the annual RCSC membership meeting) are held in Sundial Auditorium, and the center boasts a large contingent of chartered clubs.

The Sundial Center is also the home of the Sun City Mineral Museum. Operated by the RCSC Rockhound Club, the museum features rocks, minerals and geological specimens, and encourages visitors to check out the Fluorescent Room.  Admission is free.
