Summer campers expected to reach record numbers in 2021

‘First timers’ joining post-pandemic trend

Wanting to get out again after last year’s pandemic shutdowns, Kampgrounds of America (KOA) is anticipating a record number of campers across the U.S. and Canada this summer.

KOA’s June industry research report shows almost half of all campers (48%) plan to get out this summer. It’s a trend Glendale retailers are seeing as well.

“Absolutely, whether it’s campers or people going fishing,” said Dave Lueth, General Manager of the Cabela’s located at 9380 W. Glendale Ave., near Westgate. “It really started last year with all the lockdowns. More and more people went outside than ever before, whether it was new people starting to camp or new people going fishing, hiking, and it’s really continued this year.”
