Subcommittee to transition Phoenix city fleet toward electric vehicles

A Phoenix subcommittee is starting to lay out plans to transition the city’s fleet of vehicles away from internal combustion engines toward electric vehicles.

The City Fleet and Charging Infrastructure Subcommittee, which met for the first time last month, is one of three subcommittees under the new Electric Vehicle Ad Hoc Committee. It will focus on the city’s internal efforts to transition its fleet to electric vehicles, provide the necessary charging stations for those vehicles as well as provide charging stations for city of Phoenix employees to use for personal cars while at work.

The temporary Electric Vehicle committee is forming recommendations to present to council on what committee members believe are needed policy changes related to electric vehicles. The committee aims to present the recommendations by spring 2022. City council will have the final vote on whether those changes are enacted.
