Study: Planned Tempe Coyotes arena could disrupt Phoenix flights

Facility could cost estimated $264 million in economic impact

The construction of the Coyotes’ proposed new arena and surrounding Tempe Entertainment District would disrupt flights at nearby Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, according to airport staff, which could come with a hefty cost.

In a Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board meeting last Thursday, April 21, staff showed the findings of an economic study contracted by the airport.

The study forecasts as many as 6,000 flights would be reduced per year during construction of the mixed-use development, which would cost airlines $21.5 million a year and have a total regional economic cost of $264 million annually.
