Study: Maricopa County, Arizona on easier path to economic recovery than rest of US

An economic outlook study commissioned by Maricopa County shows an optimistic forecast of how Arizona and Maricopa County can recover from the recession caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Arizona’s employment rate was outperforming the rest of the country and was not hit nearly as hard by the pandemic as the rest of the country, according to the study by the Maguire Co. Maricopa County’s employment rate was outperforming the rest of the state both before and after the pandemic hit.

“Bottom line is that Arizona’s a great place to be. We came in strong, we’ll emerge stronger. And the strongest part of Arizona is Maricopa County,” Alan Maguire, president and principal economist for the Maguire Co. told the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in a meeting last week.
