Muffling voices and covering lips — masks have made it more difficult for hard-of-hearing students to learn this semester.
From online learning to a hybrid model for in-person classes, students have had to adjust to a semester unlike any they have experienced before. For hard-of-hearing students, the necessity of masks has added an additional challenge that they must adapt to.
Students at the Scottsdale Unified School District who wanted to return to in-person classes were able to on a staggered timeline beginning in late September through mid-October. SUSD follows a hybrid model where students are divided into two groups and attend in-person classes for two days out of the five-day week. Strict safety measures, such as requiring students and staff to wear masks, and cleaning protocols are being enforced.
