A 15-year-old student died Thursday morning, a day after a collision in north Peoria that injured three other students, police reported.

Peoria Police identified the girl as Alexa Flores. She died at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the hospital and one other girl was still hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, according to police spokesman Brandon Sheffert.

A GoFundMe site has been established for the Flores family. As of Thursday afternoon, more than 350 people had donated $20,165 toward the $50,000 goal at https://www.gofundme.com/alexa-flores.

Steve Fay wrote on the site, "Alexa, it was a privilege to be your fourth grade math teacher. I remember you as a kind, sweet, and respectful young lady and a responsible student. Your beautiful family was very supportive. May precious memories sustain all who knew you. I will never forget you."

Ms. Flores and three other students were on their way to class at Sandra Day O’Connor High School on Wednesday when their passenger vehicle collided with a pick-up truck at approximately 7:05 a.m. at the intersection of north Sonoran Mountain Ranch and west Ridgeline roads.

Ms. Flore, who was in the back seat on the driver’s side, sustained extensive injuries and was initially on life support, police said.

The three other girls, two 16-year-olds and a 14-year-old, were taken to the hospital, two with serious injuries and one with minor injures. The driver of the other vehicle, a 42-year-old Peoria man was not injured.

Preliminary investigation shows the pickup truck was traveling westbound on Sonoran Mountain Ranch Road. The passenger car, occupied by the girls, was traveling southbound on West Ridgeline Road and failed to yield from a stop sign at the intersection, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck has fully cooperated with the investigation. The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation.

This incident was still being investigated by the Peoria Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit; however impairment and speed do not appear to be a factor in this accident.

The principal at the high school, 25250 N. 35th Ave. in Phoenix, sent a letter home to parents. The letter was also posted on the school website, informing the public counselors with the District Flight Team was providing assistance and support for students and staff. A vigil was held Wednesday night at the school.

Monica Allread, spokeswoman with Deer Valley Unified School District, said they were keeping a close eye on the situation.

The public’s outpouring over the accident hit social media.

On the Peoria Police Facebook page, many expressed sadness.

Tracey Hess Henry wrote, " My heart is breaking for all involved. Many many prayers going up for these young ladies and their families, as well as the driver of the other vehicle."
