Stray bullet hits GCU student on Phoenix campus

A Grand Canyon University student was injured when a stray bullet hit him Wednesday evening on the Phoenix campus.
University officials said there was an off-campus dispute with multiple gunshots being fired near 36th and Vermont avenues.
It occurred just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, and “two stray bullets entered the GCU campus,” they said in a release.
One bullet struck the student near The Rivers residence halls, according to the release.
The student was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, and his parents have been notified.
Another stray bullet struck one of the residence halls but did not injure any students, officials said.
Phoenix police are investigating.
While officials said there was no need to lock down the campus Wednesday night, the university recommended students “for their own safety, use good judgment and remain on campus this evening.”
