Buckeye police received a report Nov. 21 from a mother who said a man harassed her 12-year-old daughter as she walked the stop near Baseline and Pima roads, the release stated.

Officers arrived and spoke to employees at a nearby daycare who said the suspect was walking in the area trying to talk to the girl.

They took her into the daycare where she waited for her bus.

Police received information at the scene and identified  Adrian Villareal as the suspect, according to the release. He had an active warrant for failure to register as a sex offender.

An officer spotted Villareal less than half a mile away from the daycare. He ran away and into a backyard near 7th Ave and Deniza, police said.

After a brief standoff, Villareal was taken into custody. He was booked into jail on the warrant to register and charges of harassment and trespassing, police said.
