On Feb. 13, a male student was walking home from Arrowhead Elementary School when an older man started to chase him near 75th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.

The mother of the student notified school administration of the incident, and Principal Vivian Hunt sent out a letter to parents and guardians Tuesday, Feb. 14.

"The safety of your child is a priority of Arrowhead Elementary and the Deer Valley Unified School District," the letter stated.

The boy described the stranger as an older white male with a mustache. According to the letter, the mother was in the process of contacting the Glendale Police Department.

In an email, Public Information Officer Tiffany Smith said the department sent a school liaison officer to the school Tuesday to identify the student and parent for a follow up.

Officer Smith said Wednesday the school provided the names of the student and mother, but police have not received a response in their attempts to reach out. No police report was filed, and Officer Smith said it is unsure if they will file one.

The principal's letter detailed the following tips for parents to share with their children if a stranger approaches them:

Do not talk to strangers, if approached

If approached, run away immediately, and tell a parent, school staff member or call 911

Always walk or ride in groups

Do not wait for parent pick-up/rides home in areas outside of campus that are not supervised

Always pay attention to your surroundings.
