Local citrus growers still believe in one of Arizona’s five Cs

Allen Freeman remembers looking out over a tract of 240 acres filled with citrus trees.

Fifty years ago, the Valley landscape was dominated by citrus orchards where Arizona’s five Cs — copper, cattle, cotton, citrus and climate — ruled the land.

Now, Freeman and his wife, Shelly, are among family members who have held up Orange Patch in Mesa and Orange Patch Too — the family business — after his father, Art, started the business in 1970.
