Steve Mednansky

PEORIA - Steve Mednansky passed away on Feb. 3, 2017. Steve was born Dec. 1, 1924 in Versailles, France to Martin and Ludmila Mednansky. He joined his sister, Millie, who was one and a half years old. When Steve was four, his parents immigrated to the United States along with his brother John, who was three. His parents had another son and daughter born in the U.S., Bill and Wilma. Steve remembered some of his long ocean trip to the United States which took several weeks. He also remembered going through Ellis Island.In 1942, when Steve turned 18, he was drafted into the army during World War II and served in the Pacific at Guadalcanal and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946. When he was 24, he met and married the love of his life, Millie Bielsik. They were blessed with three sons and a daughter and 65 years of marriage, until Millie's passing on Oct. 11, 2015.Steve worked for Western Electric in Cicero, Ill. for 20 years, and then was transferred to Phoenix in 1967 to open a new Western Electric plant. He loved working and retired after 40 years of service. Steve was a selfless man, dedicated to his family. He worked hard to provide for his family and was so proud that all four of his children attended the University of Arizona and all became successful in their careers. His grandchildren and great-grandchild gave him much joy. Steve raised his children to have strong faith. He enjoyed attending church and was an Elder when he was physically able to do so. He also enjoyed fishing, watching sports, travel, a good meal and an occasional trip to a casino. Although Steve, in his later years had many physical ailments, he never complained and took all in stride. He thanked his children often for helping him after the passing of his dear wife, Millie. Steve passed away quietly at home with family at his bedside. He will be remembered for being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His parents; sisters; brother, Bill; and his beloved wife, Millie preceded him in death.He leaves his son, Mark and wife, Shelly, of Southlake, Texas; son, Michael, of Glendale; daughter, Susan, of Phoenix; son, Marty and wife, Sally, of Puyallup, Wash.; granddaughter, Courtney and husband, Andy Gribble, of North Richland Hills, Texas; granddaughter, Sara and husband, Matthew Richardson, of Jericho, Vt.; granddaughter, Alicia Mednansky, of Puyallup, Wash.; great-grandson, Jack Gribble, of North Richland Hills, Texas; his brother, John, of Glendale; sister-in-law, Ann Jennings, of Phoenix; brother-in-law, Frank Bielsik and wife, Peggy, of Fountain Valley, Calif.; sister-in-law, Mary Holman, of Phoenix; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held Mar. 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon at the Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 15630 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City.
