The statewide workforce development network ARIZONA@WORK will have to make do with a 7.4% budget reduction during the next two years, a cut of about $823,000 to programs that help people find jobs.
The financial update was presented to the city of Phoenix’s Business and Workforce Development Board last week. A board member said it is not yet decided where the cuts will have to be made but they planned to meet with some youth service providers later in the week and could update the board about potential cuts in the next meeting.
The program gets its funding from the Arizona Department of Economic Security for two-year chunks. ARIZONA@WORK received $10.3 million from the state government for fiscal years that run July 2024 through June 2026. That is less than the $11.1 million allocation it received for the prior time period.
