1,600 acres in Queen Creek to be rezoned for more employment uses

Town council could move to allow for 'urban employment'

The Queen Creek Town Council is expected to approve a request that would rezone a 1,600-acre site near the proposed LG Energy Solutions manufacturing plant.

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Queen Creek Planning & Zoning Commission approved a request amending the Arizona State Land Department Specific Plan. The amendment would rezone approximately 1,600 acres of state trust land from the neighborhood and urban category to urban employment and “defining development guidelines for the remainder of the property as it relates to the urban employment designation,” according to a P&Z staff report.

The request was made by applicants Carolyn Oberholtzer, Bergin, Frakes, Smalley & Oberholtzer PLLC. The site is generally bounded by Germann Road on the south, Kenworthy Road along the western boundary, the future State Route 24 alignment along the north and the Central Arizona Project canal along the east.
