State, local leaders look to bolster semiconductor job pipeline

The state of Arizona is helping to bolster attention on newly expanded registered technician apprenticeship programs to help the region’s semiconductor industry grow.

On Tuesday, a group that included Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Arizona President Rose Castaneres announced new apprenticeships and programs at Arizona colleges that are paired with the needs of TSMC in north Phoenix.

The Arizona Commerce Authority is investing $4 million that will go toward helping fill the talent pipeline and build infrastructure for apprenticeship programs specifically in the semiconductor industry, said Patrick Ptak, executive vice president of executive initiatives at the Arizona Commerce Authority.
