The Dysart Unified School District has a fairly clear idea of what new campuses it will need before the end of this decade, and a general location for each new school.
DUSD also knows the Arizona School Facilities Board can only take care of about half of that needed capital to build new schools. While the district’s growth is projected to unlock money for a new high school in Surprise before 2030, that will not be the case for two or three elementary schools required to keep up in the district’s growth area.
Changes driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and its ripple effect on the number of students seeking traditional in-person education tempered pre-2020 enrollment growth projections. However, without a new high school opening, Willow Canyon High School will be bursting at the seams by 2030.
