A state bill that governs how close someone can be when recording an on-duty police officer died at the Supreme Court level, but it’s not completely out of the game.
House Bill 2319, introduced by Senator John Kavanagh, R-Dist. 3, when he was a representative requires citizens to be at least eight feet away from officers making arrests when recording them.
“It only dealt with people filming the police, but not with people standing there watching, so that, that was felt to be like an infringement on the press,” said Kavanagh.
