Stars of Chandler dual-language program show off skills

Learning at least one new language has long been held in high regard in American schools. Some Chandler Unified School District students have done that through all or most of their time in school.

More than a dozen students, from various grades and campus sites, showed off their multilingual skills at a CUSD Governing Board work session in December. Accompanied by staff, students read prepared statements from a podium about what they enjoy most about the Dual Language Immersion program — in English and in either Spanish or Mandarin Chinese — and, for a couple students, all three languages.

One student who spoke, Lily Hamlin, is a Hamilton High School student who’s been a part of the district’s inception of the program in 2014 at Tarwater Elementary School.
