StandUp AJ drug-prevention coalition receives $125K federal grant

Apache Junction’s drug-prevention coalition, StandUp AJ, has received a federal grant of $125,000 a year for five years from the Drug-Free Communities Support Program.

The local nonprofit was one of 99 new coalitions across the country to receive a portion of approximately $12.4 million in grants for fiscal year 2022, as announced Aug. 18 by Dr. Rahul Gupta, director of the White House Office of National Drug Policy.

The grants support President Joe Biden’s strategy to beat the overdose epidemic by providing funding to new community coalitions working to prevent youth substance use, including prescription drugs, marijuana, tobacco and alcohol, according to a release from the White House.
