Standardized test results give mixed message at Scottsdale Schools

Scottsdale Unified School District’s spring standardized test results gave a mixed message this year.

For example, English language arts test scores for the Arizona Academic Standards Assessment, which is given in grades three through eight, all showed the district did better than the state average. The district’s scores ranged from 16% better than the state for seventh grade to 24% higher in third and fourth grades.

The rub comes when you compared those same English language arts scores to last year’s scores. Those scores were down 2% in fifth grade and 1% in seventh and eighth grades. Third and fourth grades held the line with no change in scores and sixth grade saw an increase of six percentage points.
